For this year's annual New York City trip, we were able to meet some outstanding Grady College alumni and tour multiple networks and organizations. Our first stop right after landing the plane was the CBS Broadcast Center where we watched the CBS halftime report for the Oregon versus Washington basketball game. Our students chatted with Adam Zucker and Wally Szczerbiak in the studio along with the production crew about not only the best restaurants in NYC but what an average day for them looks like as a journalist. After that night, we visited Small Girls Public Relations firm to visit some of our alumni and learn about their operations and opportunities for internships and one day a job at their company! Tuesday was our busiest day, for we went to ABC Studios to meet with Robin Hommel, a successful Grady graduate, who is the executive producer and creator of Grady Greats, a panel discussion between notable Grady College alumni. As DGK members, we have the privilege of setting up and producing this show, and we are able to connect with the panelists and crew members after the show. This year, our panel included Amy Robach, Ben Mayer, Deborah Norville, Brian Robinson, Joseph Watson and Will Carr with Dean Charles N. Davis as the moderator. We sat in the audience during the discussion and asked questions along with ones sent by Twitter. After the panel, our DGK students talked with some of the producers for ABC Studios including Executive Producer of the View, Brian Teta, and Robin Hommel for advice on interviewing, resumes and other aspects on being the best in the game. Our last tour was with Kevin Schatell, a recent Grady grad, at NBC Studios. We stood outside during the Today show and briefly met the hosts. Kevin discussed with us over what those couple years right after college looked like for him and about different programs he was in. Overall, our trip was invaluable with the amount of networking opportunities and insight to our industry of communications in the Big Apple.
